Halifax
I have called Halifax and they have confirmed they issue visa electron cards.
The link to the page where Halifax mentions the Visa Electron card on their website is here. Check the Expresscash and Cardcash accounts.
And the official Halifax website is here.
Enjoy!
I just submitted an online application for a Visa Electron with Halifax from the first link above. They’re experiencing high demand so it takes more than 7 days to process the application.
I think Halifax is trying to dissuade people from applying for their Easycash account which comes with a visa electron card }green]. I applied almost 2 months ago and at every step Halifax has delayed the process by making errors that necessitate the application being delayed. Either they are trying to make it difficult or they are VERY incompetent, which is unfortunate now that all of us taxpayers are now its owners.
Got a green Halifax Electron Visa card, doesnt say anything on it whether a credit or debit card does anyone know which one it is
Hi Karen,
I also have an Halifax visa electron card, but it’s blue/purple. Have you called the bank and asked?
Cheers,
Dinis
No I haven’t
Hi Dinis,
applied for my Easy cash account on line and received notification that my account had been set up in just 3 days. got my Visa Electron card within 7 days and credited this account with money and have already booked my Christmas flights with First Choice, ( No fees charged) and the card works a treat! Also used it to pre book hotel with parking at Gatwick using holiday extras and once again no fee!
Thanks so much for all the useful information Dinis. And thank you Halifax! Way to go!!!!!
Just applied for the Easycash Visa Electron (16/03/11), seemed very straight forward although they did say they are experiencing high volume of applications (probably due to this informative page! lol)…. will keep you informed of progress
Halifax have already confirmed my account has been opened (19/03/11) just 3 days, waiting on card now
Got card on 23/03/11 just 7 days after applying… Happy Days… flights booked with Easy Jet already!
Hi Mick, great news!! Thanks for sharing!
Just to confirm that Halifax do still offer the Visa Electron card, via their Easycash account, which you can operate by telephone or online banking. I’ve just applied for one – doesn’t help me for this year, when I’ve just been stung by Monarch for nearly £45 booking fee (ouch!) – but at least next year it will be FREE (as long as they don’t change the rules by then!)
Great site, keep up the good work!
Hi All,
I applied for a Halifax Easycash account with Electron card via their online application form on 7th September 2010 and I received the Electron card on 17th September (less than 2 weeks!) I already have an ‘ordinary’ Halifax bank account and credit card so the application process might have been quicker for this reason (less ID checking required).
Thanks for providing all the useful information on your website Dinis – keep up the good work!
Cheers
Gary
Hi Gary, thank you very much for sharing your experience. It’s very useful to know that Halifax is still issuing Visa Electron cards. Good news
Cheers,
Dinis
Many thanks – spoke with Halifax and the EASYCASH account still provides a VISA ELECTRON CARD. Have applied today – so let’s see how long it takes.
I was prompted to do this because when booking a flight with FlyBE this morning they wanted to charge me £18 for using a Direct Debit Card – that’s just a legalised ‘rip-off’ – so as they make no charge for a Visa Electron Card I intend to play them at their own game!
I may be a 65 year old pensioner but I’m not dim or stupid
Hi Richard, thank you for sharing your experience!
Got my Halifax Easycash card (see above) and used it successfully with Ryanair. Great tip, many thanks.
Thanks for the response Dinis. Only copped on after I posted that the posts probably reffered to UK residents.
Have since come across http://www.entropay.com who issue virtual electron cards. The virtual cards have worked with Ryanair in the past, but not sure if Ryanair still accepts them.
Trying to apply online, but running into problems…
When applying online, do you tick the box UK resident?
What do you enter in the Post Code Box ?
Thanks
Paddy
Hi there,
I’m not sure, but I’m guessing that if you are not a UK resident, you can’t really apply for an account unless you go to a branch personally. Does anyone know of any other process?
Cheers!
Just applied for Easycash. Looks promising. I did not like the 1.5% on the Post Office pre-pay card.
Hi Ed,
if they accept your application, it’s likely they’ll issue a Visa Electron card. I have just got mine 2 weeks ago!
Cheers!
HI TRIED TO GET A ELECTRON CARD TODAY AT HALIFAX AND THEY SAID THEY NO LONGER DO THEM
Hi there,
have you asked for an Easycash account?
It would be really bad if they didn’t issue Visa Electron cards any more…
I’ve just applied for a Card on line. Thanks a lot for the tip as I would never have found out where to get one otherwise. I book a lot of flights with Easyjet and Ryanair so a Visa Electron card will make a big difference! I’ll buy you a beer out of my first savings. Cheers
Hi Janet,
thank you for the kind comments! I hope everything works out well for you, and I’ll be waiting for that beer
Cheers!
Yey ! Just got one!
After having day light robbery preformed on me from Ryanair [Yep those card charges for not having a Visa Electron Card], and for this to not happen next time…
I managed to now [as of 09/09/09] get my Halifax EasyCash “Visa Electron” through the post! Just to confirm that it was done online and took approx 2 and a half weeks!,
I must say i was slightly nervous because I was expecting a Visa Debit Card but what came in the envelope didnt disapoint me! [Thankyou Halifax]
Now I can insert cash into the Visa Electron acount from one of my other accounts [another bank] via Online banking, just before booking my tickets for next time!
Gi–Ho!
Hi there!
Great news! I have applied for one at Halifax, but so far no news. Have you ever tried the pre-paid ones?
Cheers!
Electron cards arrived in post this morning, only problem, my wife and myself both received cards although I only applied with her as 2nd user
but then we both received 2 cards each!!!
Will keep you informed.
Best regards Rick
Thanks for all your hard work, have just applied to Halifax will let you know if I am successful and then buy you a drink!!
Hi Rick,
thanks for your kind comment.
We’ll be waiting for the result of your experience. Any news so far?
Cheers
