Abbey

I have called Abbey and they have confirmed they issue visa electron cards.

The link to the page where Abbey mentions the Visa Electron card on their website is here.

And the official Abbey website is here.

Enjoy!

  1. I checked with the Abbey website. They only issue Visa Electron cards to schoolchildren and international students, so unfortunately I am 47 years too old and will have to make do with a Visa Delta card and pay the airline card charges. Dave. C

      Hi Dave,

actually, my experience tells me different. I went to Abbey and asked for a Visa Electron card to be added to my current account and had no problems. This was about 6 months ago. Have you tried going to a branch and ask for a Visa Electron card?

      Cheers!

      Hi Scott,

actually that doesn’t seem to be right. My girlfriend has a “normal” Abbey account and she asked for one and it has arrived 2 weeks later. She didn’t have any problems with it. Do you have an Abbey account?

      Cheers

  2. TERRY JONES says:

Many thanks for all the information.

Just one point I could not find the answer to:-

If paying with an Electron Card, and the airline should “go bust”, do you have the same protection as paying by credit card, whereby the credit card issuer is obliged to refund the amount.

Look forward to hearing from you.

      Hi Terry,

thank you for your query. Very valid point.
To be honest, I have no idea. Probably it depends on the airline. If I have some time meanwhile, I’ll have a look into that.
      Can anyone clarify this one?

      Cheers

No, you will not be protected solely by the card. If the airline is in the ATOL travel finance protection agreement which most are, they will cover costs and get you home. To be sure though, you will be protected as long as you have a valid travel insurance policy (check policy details). The vast majority of travel insurance policies will cover airline failure, and you can get insurance from as little at £1.50 a trip on some price comparison websites.

      Hope this helps.

        Hi Matty,

thanks for your comment, but I’m not sure it belongs to this section. To whom are you answering to? Someone in the Airlines section?

        Thanks

          Hi Dinis,

I think Matty was replying to TERRY JONES’ question on 2009/08/18 at 15:16. Guess you missed that one :)

          • Dinis Quelhas says:

Oooops, my appologies Matty! If I find a way to add this one as a reply to Terry, I will. If not, everyone, my mistake :)

            Thanks Andy!
