Was told today that Halifax no longer issue Visa Electrons after my card was eaten by an atm last week. The dude also said he didn’t believe Santander (owners of Abbey) issue them anymore either.

The list is shortening sadly.

I have today been to my branch of santander (abbey national) and asked for an electron card. they told me they do not issue them anymore, thought you might like to know. pjn.

Abbey / Santander reluctant to issue me electron as I already had debit – I insisted on having second card, I was the customer & wanted one (several accounts with bank). Issued 10/9 & expiring 10/11 WILL NOT BE RENEWED AS THEY AS STOPPING ISSUE!

You have to pay the extra card fees even if you’re using the payment card of the airline, so there is know point. I.e. Buy EasyJet flights with an EasyJet credit card, and you’ll have to pay £8 (approx) as a “credit card booking fee”. It’s not worth it.

Yes, the PostOffice Travel Money card no longer exists, and the link should be removed from this page.

Interestingly, RyanAir have moved to Prepaid MasterCards as their preferred option. I use a free one from Phones4U – go in store and enquire.

Yeah, I had a card like this too. Your card is now terminated and you should have received the balance as a cheque in the post. You can no longer use the card. Do not attempt to load money onto it. It was great while it lasted

I just submitted an online application for a Visa Electron with Halifax from the first link above. They’re experiencing high demand so it takes more than 7 days to process the application.

No Extra charge with Visa Electron and Easy Jet.
Shame you can not get a Visa Electron Card anymore except Halifax (owned by Lloyds, I will not bank with them). If anyone knows otherwise, please post.

Hi there just been looking at this thread specifically Santander vise debit/electron. I recently hired a car and when I produced my visa card which says it is a debit card I was told they could not accept it as it was electron. I said it wasnt as I have used it for a long time and have never once thought it was nor seen on any receipts or online purchases the word electron. I phoned santander and explained what was happening and was told it was a debit card I then asked if he could tell the retailer that it was debit. The retailer spoke to santander and told them that the card is printed rather than embossed numbers. The bank then u turned and said it was electron. A day later when using my card at a pay at the pump for fuel it read my card and said visa debit card. Can you help
