My Barclays cash card used to be a VISA ELECTRON with a 4917 number and the correct logo – and I used it many times to purchase airline tickets. When my card expired last year Barclays replaced it with a VISA DEBIT Connect card 4658. I went into my local Barclays bank at the weekend, and was told that my new card was still effectively a VISA ELECTRON card, despite the branding. Man in the bank said that he could tell because the card could not be used as a cheque guarantee card ! Rubbish I say.

I recently used my Barclays Connect card to book an Easyjet ticket and the card type is shown as a Visa debit card on the booking confimation printour. Unable to tell from the EZ paperwork if I was charged extra for using a Visa debit card, but I’m pretty sure from memory that I was.

Aer lingus if you look up the site and go in to the charges link you will see that aer lingus state that there is no charges for electron. I tried the entropay card and it worked for me on the aer lingus site.

Hi Eppie,

I’m not sure they should add charges to anything to be honest. They used to offer Visa Electron, now it’s the prepaid Mastercard. It’s all s strategy to promote certain cards that are not that popular and also be compliant with the advertising laws…

Thanks for the tip. Could you post the link here to their website where they state no fees for Visa Electron?
I thought that entropay cards were debit cards, not visa electron.

Aer lingus also offer no credit card fees with visa electron. They accept entropay virtual cards.

flybe do not accept travelex or thomas cook visa electron. Or post office electron.

So unless you can open an uk based bank account and have a plastic visa electron card that is that option out .

They also do not regnogize entropay accounts.

flybe should introduce a prepaid mastercard like ryanair did and that would solve everything.

flybe do not recognize visa electron prepaid cards say those bought in post office or those got in thomas cook or travelex. Their cards have to be attached to a bank account say part of an account that is set up.

Their systems do not accept entropay either. So an irish person is rightly stuck and has to pay credit card fees because all their options are gone as we are not allowed open a foreign bank ac. We could get an uk citizen to pay for us with their card but that is ackward and not convenient.

So flybe mislead the people by limiting the availability of visa electron.

Ryanair now charge for Visa Electron. They don’t charge for Mastercard Prepaid.

And the fun continues.
